Meet the Getaway Guy
Hi! My name is Chris. My journey in the travel industry began in the rolling hills of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, selling timeshares at a resort tucked away in nature’s beauty. What began as a gimmick—encouraging people to “make a vacation commitment today”—turned out to be a concept that would shape not just my career, but my outlook on life. Over time, that sales pitch became something far more meaningful: a philosophy. That everyone deserves time away, a break from routine, and a connection to something bigger.
As I moved from the mountains to the coast, I joined National Leisure Group in Virginia Beach—one of the leading national travel agencies at the time, specializing in cruises and all-inclusive Caribbean getaways. There, I gained hands-on experience navigating the complex and dynamic world of leisure travel. It was the perfect training ground, and it gave me the foundation I still build on today.
Eventually, I stepped away from the industry and into the world of personal training, where I worked with middle school through college-aged athletes. Yet even as my focus shifted to fitness and mentorship, travel never really left me. I found myself drawn to sporting events across the country—exploring cities, stadiums, and iconic landscapes along the way. My love for the outdoors also led me to begin exploring America’s National Parks, a passion that continues to this day and plays a growing role in my travel planning for clients.
In 2012, with my family having relocated to South Carolina, I followed my heart and made North Myrtle Beach my home. I re-entered the travel industry through an excursion company, selling parasailing and jet ski adventures along the coast. But I knew I wanted to do more than just sell experiences—I wanted to help people design them.
With the encouragement of my family and a renewed sense of purpose, I launched The Getaway Guy LLC. Today, I specialize in curated travel experiences ranging from sports travel and golf vacations to culinary escapes. My mission is simple: to help people commit to vacation—whether it’s a weekend retreat, a bucket-list tournament, or a journey across the world.
Because travel isn’t just a break from life—it’s a way to live it more fully.
Meet the Family Behind The Getaway Guy
If you ask my family, they’ll say I do all the work. But if you ask me? They’re the glue that holds it all together.
My dad, Roger, brings the wisdom—and the reminder that the only thing you lose by trying is the chance to succeed. My mom, Dolly, is the behind-the-scenes editor, proofing just about every social post and email to keep us looking sharp. My sister, Traci, is the ultimate hype woman—she keeps me grounded while driving leads with her magnetic personality and natural gift for making friends. And then there’s Colton—our resident vacation and hotel critic. He’s got the teenage perspective on lock and serves as quality control on all our family adventures.
Together, we’re more than just a travel business—we’re a travel family. And we’re here to help you plan a getaway you’ll never forget.
